KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 — The sepak takraw team regu event will still be held at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games despite having less than four participating countries, says the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC).

CAMSOC’s secretary-general Vath Chamroeun said the decision was made so as to further acknowledge and appreciate the resources and time invested by the athletes, coaches, and team officials in preparation for the event at the biennial games.

“I can also confirm that CAMSOC maintains its decision to allow the three competing NOCs (national Olympic committees) to be awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals according to the final competition results,” he said in a letter to Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) president Datuk Abdul Halim Kader yesterday.

As such, the competition will see the event contested by the defending champions, Thailand, 2021 SEA Games silver medallists Malaysia and Cambodia.

Meanwhile, ASTAF in a statement confirmed that the round-robin format would be applied as the event featured less than five countries.

Recently, Abdul Halim in a media report declined to comment on the status of the team regu event at the 32nd edition of the SEA Games.
