BANGKOK, May 6 —  The Malaysian diaspora in Bangkok, Thailand, gathered at the much-anticipated Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering to enjoy sumptuous Malaysian delicacies – bringing a taste of home to their celebration.

The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok is hosting a Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration today at Baan Thai Boutique Hotel to provide an opportunity for Malaysians to meet each other and celebrate the special occasion.

Some 250 people including embassy’s officials and their families, Locally Recruited Staff (LRS), Malaysian community and several Thai guests attended the gathering.

An array of food was served to the guests, which included Nasi Briyani, Lemang and Rendang, Ayam Masak Merah, Kuih Lapis Sarawak, Spring Roll, and Kuih Raya.

The gathering offers an opportunity for Malaysians to savour special Raya traditional dishes, socialise with fellow Malaysians, and strengthen their bond with one another.

Malaysia’s ambassador to Thailand Datuk Jojie Samuel and his wife, Datin Catherina Cherian Samuel, also gave ‘duit raya’ to the children who joined in the celebration.

In his remarks, Jojie encouraged all Malaysians to keep their spirit of unity, and foster an attitude of kindness, mercy and courtesy to help those in need regardless of race and religion in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani.

He also urged Malaysians to always preserve the good name of the country.

“Malaysia’s multi religious and multicultural society is a unique and cherished aspect of the country.

“It has played a significant role in shaping Malaysia’s identity and has made it a truly unique and special place in the world. Thus, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a time for us to foster unity, harmony, and understanding amongst all members of the society,” he said.
