KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 — The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) allocated zakat (tithe) contributions of RM120,000, through the Setulus Kasih PTPTN programme, as an effort to encourage savings for educational purposes and ease the burden of those in need.

PTPTN said that the contribution will be channelled in the form of Simpan SSPN Prime accounts and food boxes containing daily necessities, in selected states across the country.

“The contribution will benefit 600 students and asnaf families, with each student and family receiving an SSPN Prime savings account and a food box contribution worth RM200.

“To ensure that the assistance provided is enjoyed by the target group, this programme also involves collaboration with government agencies, non-governmental organisations and local community leaders,” it said in a statement.

It also said that Penang was selected as the first location for the programme, involving contributions totalling RM20,000, including Simpan SSPN Prime accounts and food boxes worth RM10,000.

“It is hoped that the contribution can help ease the burden of life for those in need, and increase the motivation of children to continue to create academic success, thus becoming useful human capital for religion, nation and country.

It added that it will continue to commit to improving the implementation of CSR (corporate social responsibility) programmes for the development of the children in the country, in line with its motto, “Peluang Kejayaan Anda’ (Your Opportunity for Success) and its tagline ‘PTPTN Prihatin: Kami Kongsi, Kami Bantu’ (PTPTN Cares: We Share, We Help).
