KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — China’s Embassy in Malaysia today hosted an Open Day to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.

About 50 of the Embassy’s friends and followers on Facebook and TikTok as well as international students from the Xiamen University Malaysia attended the event.

The Chinese Ambassador Ouyang Yujing in his brief remarks said he hoped such an event would help to further promote exchanges and interactions between the Embassy and the people of this country.

“This also serves as a platform to have a better knowledge of China and Chinese culture, and enjoy the friendship between our two countries,” he said.

Besides being treated to the delectable “Zongzi” (Chinese sticky rice dumplings),  guests also experienced various hands on traditional crafts including Chinese Knots, Chinese sachet and calligraphy.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a major festival in the Chinese lunar calendar that commemorates the poet Qu Yuan. It is celebrated annually with the Dragon Boat race and eating of Zongzi.

It was officially recognised as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO in 2009.
