MERSING, June 24 — Efforts to develop the Mersing district require cooperation between the state and federal governments, said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

He said all issues plaguing the people in the district need to be resolved immediately for the sake of their well-being so that they can enjoy the spillover economic benefits.

“I believe that with the cooperation, support and help from the federal government, we will be able to make Johor, especially Mersing, a destination of choice for tourists from all over the world,” he said in a post on his Facebook page today.

According to him, Mersing has the potential to become a well-known tourism district in Malaysia due to its exceptional natural beauty.

He explained that this is due to the district’s stunning coastline, which features silky soft white sand and crystal clear blue-green waters that fascinate anyone who sees them.

Onn Hafiz said that there are also many different kinds of corals in the water around the islands off Mersing, which makes them a great place for those who enjoy island hopping and snorkelling.

Earlier, he visited Pulau Sibu Tengah, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Besar, Pulau Batu-Batu, Pulau Rawa, Pulau Harimau, Pulau Hujung, and Pulau Batu Gajah, as well as Kampung Stay @ Teluk Buih, during his two-day working visit to the district.

Mersing has five main islands, namely Pulau Sibu, Pulau Besar, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Aur and Pulau Pemanggil.
