KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) has suspended the licence of Emraz Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd for six months, effective July 10, 2023 until Jan 9, 2024.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, said the matter was decided in accordance with Section 8(1)(d) of the Tourism Industry Act 1992 for conducting business in a manner that is harmful to the interest of the public, the tourism industry or the national economy.

“During the suspension period, the company is not allowed to conduct any new business, such as advertising Umrah packages and taking on new clients.

“Additionally, the company is required to return all payments and documents belonging to Umrah pilgrims who chose to cancel their bookings with the company and reschedule the delayed flight,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong said any breach of the conditions by the company may result in revocation of its licence, with no possibility of renewal once the licence period expires.

On April 2, Lembaga Tabung Haji suspended the licence of the same company in a move to protect the welfare of prospective haj pilgrims following public complaints about their Umrah services.
