KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — The government’s allocation of RM100 million to six enforcement agencies to enhance their equipment and capabilities has been described as an injection of motivation to further boost the effectiveness in carrying out their duties.
Director-general of the Prisons Department Datuk Nordin Muhamad said the allocation is indeed needed by the enforcement agency which is faced with shortages which involve logistical aspects.
“It mainly involves prisoner escort vehicles, weaponry, security control equipment as well as tools to help implement the rehabilitation programmes.
“Through this allocation, it will be able to help staff to further improve the effectiveness of their duties,” he told Bernama.
Apart from that, the initiative which also involves an improved uniform allowance, will reduce staff expenses related to uniforms.
“This ensures neater uniforms and it will indirectly boost their morale,” he said.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, when contacted, also expressed his gratitude to the government for providing the allocation to the enforcement agencies.
He said the allocation will empower the Royal Malaysia Police force and safeguard the welfare of members.
Meanwhile, the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Tan Sri Azam Baki said the allocation provided can be used to repair or replace equipment involving the agency’s services.
“This initiative shows the government’s concern to improve the enforcement capacity so that it can provide good, fast and efficient service to the people,” he said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an allocation of RM100 million to enhance the equipment and capabilities of six enforcement agencies in addition to improving the Uniform Allowance for the Management and Professional Group (P&P) as well as a study to empower enforcement agencies and improve the career path for enforcement officers and staff.
Anwar said the Uniform Allowance for the P&P Group would be improved by using the uniform supply method in six agencies with an annual financial implication of RM5,502,780 a year.
Anwar, who is Finance Minister, also urged Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood to disburse the RM100 million allocation to the enforcement agencies by the end of next week at the latest.
The six agencies are the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Prisons Department, the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
