SEKINCHAN, July 18 — The Selangor branch of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) aims to organise 200 MADANI Agro Sales programmes in the state until the end of the year.

Its director, Aiada Abdul Rashid said the implementation of the sales programmes is targeted particularly in People’s Housing Programmes (PPR) and urban poor areas with around 40 events to be organised monthly starting in April.

Aiada said these programmes included having fresh products, controlled items and selected basic products as well as promoting the MADANI combo which consists of a basket of wet products such as chicken or fish and vegetables offered for as low as RM15.

“Each time the MADANI Agro Sales programme is organised, there will be sales of the MADANI combo depending on the target group and venue. That is why the products or value in each basket differs,” she told Bernama at the Selangor-level MADANI Agro Sales programme which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, here today.

Meanwhile, visitor Hasnah Mustapha, 60, from Kampung Tali Air 3 here, said the organisation of the MADANI Agro Sales should be carried out continuously so that we can buy more daily necessities at very worthwhile and cheap prices.

“I spent RM50 today. This is so worth to buy various kinds of wet items including cencaru fish for RM5 a kilogramme (kg) and eggs for RM10 per tray. You really cannot get these kind of prices,” she said.

Meanwhile, Halimah Mad Sah, 63, from Sekinchan said with the regular implementation of the sales programme, the less fortunate are able to get fresh produce from the farm to their area.

The MADANI Agro Sales Programme is a rebranding of the Direct From Farm programme implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through FAMA, the Farmers’ Organisation Authority (LPP) and Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM).
