KUCHING, Aug 3 — Astana Sarawak, the office of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, today advised the public not to be hoodwinked by unverified news and speculations on the Head of State’s health.

A statement signed by the State Governor’s private secretary, Junih Salleh Ahmad, said Abdul Taib’s condition has been improving and he is currently recuperating overseas.

“God willing, and with his doctor’s advice, he will come home very soon,” he said.

He said it had come to the Astana’s attention that certain members of the community had continuously harped on Abdul Taib’s health condition.

Earlier today, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg confirmed that Abdul Taib will return to Sarawak soon.

Without giving a date, Abang Johari said Abdul Taib was recuperating after being taken ill while on leave abroad.

“He has recovered and is now resting. We are waiting for the final report from the hospital, after which he will return,” he told reporters after launching the state-level National Month and Fly Jalur Gemilang campaign at the state police headquarters here.
