MELAKA, Sept 30 — The Melaka-level Rahmah Sales held at the Dataran Sejarah Ayer Keroh today offers a discount between 10 to 30 per cent cheaper than the current market price.

Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Senator Fuziah Salleh said the sales today also offer 15 to 25 items of daily necessities consisting of dry and wet items.

“A total of 34 industry players in the retail sector and nine government agencies are involved in making the Rahmah Sales program a success at the Melaka state level and we are targeting 40,000 consumers with a sales value of RM2 million,” she said in a statement here today.

Fuziah said among the essential items offered today were round chicken at RM6.30 per kilogramme (kg), five kg bottles of cooking oil (RM23), grade C eggs (RM9 per tray), multipurpose flour (RM2), five kg imported super rice (RM13), fresh meat (RM32 per kg), condensed milk (RM2) and many other necessities.

She said the Menu Rahmah was also offered involving 12 traders offering a variety of local and Western cuisine dishes, priced at RM5 and below.

“At the same time, 90 sets of Rahmah baskets were also distributed to the target group this morning in collaboration with the Melaka Consumer Movement and several industry players in the retail sector.

“The ministry invites and encourages more industry players, especially hypermarkets and supermarkets so that together we can achieve this aspiration together in reducing the pressure on the cost of living of the people,” she said.

In the meantime, she said as of yesterday, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Melaka branch has implemented the Rahmah Sales in 111 locations in six parliamentary constituencies and 28 state constituencies, involving the presence of more than 285,000 consumers.
