GUA MUSANG, Sept 30 — The tiger believed to have been attacking pet dogs belonging to the Temiar Orang Asli community in Pos Bihai, here, since July was caught yesterday.

Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said the male tiger, given the name ‘Apek Bihai’, is estimated to be two years old and was healthy when captured.

He said following a complaint from Kampung Hak villagers in July, the department set a trap on Aug 6, adding that on Sept 8, along with members of the Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit (UKHM), more traps were laid.

“The tiger will be sent to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Sungkai, Perak,” Mohamad Hafid said in a statement today.

He said based on records, the first case of a tiger attack at Pos Bihai was on July 5, 2021, involving a tiger (Syamilla Bihai) which caused serious injury to an Orang Asli man. It was then successfully captured and placed at the NWRC.

He said the second case occurred on Jan 7 last year, in which an Orang Asli man was killed after being attacked by a tiger, adding that the beast had to be shot dead after it tried to attack Perhilitan personnel during an operation.
