KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 — Corporate entities have been encouraged to increase their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes through community service initiatives such as dental health check-ups to facilitate communities in suburban and rural areas.

Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the Minister of Communications and Digital, said for example, although Lembah Pantai, Pantai Dalam and Kampung Kerinchi are located in the city and are within distance of many hospitals and clinics, there are various constraints faced by the local community to obtain treatment and services.

“Hence, when we bring the service into the community more people will benefit. I welcome this kind of effort and if there are other parties who want to hold a similar programme (in Lembah Pantai) they can contact me,” he told reporters when attending the ‘Pemeriksaan Kesihatan Gigi: Gigi Sihat Senyum Ceria’ at the People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Kerinchi here today.

According to Fahmi, the programme, organised in collaboration with the International Medical University (IMU); Lembah Pantai Residents’ Representative Council and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), aims to raise awareness about dental care.

He said the programme also helped third-year IMU dental students to gain practical experience, especially in managing small children who can be difficult to undergo dental check-ups.
