ROMPIN, Oct 8 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah graced the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge (RPBIC) 2023, here, today.

Tengku Panglima Raja Colonel Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah was also in attendance.

Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, state Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Leong Yu Man, Tioman Development Authority general manager Datuk Idros Yahaya and Tourism Pahang general manager Kamaruddin Ibrahim. 

RPBIC is an international fishing event with a catch-and-release concept and part of the tourism products in the Rompin district.  The billfish species can be found abundantly in the Kuala Rompin waters during its active migration season between March and October each year.

The international challenge was first held in 2004.  For this year, the three-day event which kicked off on Oct 6 saw the participation of 13 teams with 49 anglers including from Japan and Singapore.

Teams from Malaysia namely Team Xzoga, Lemax Pro Team and LXF-ROH took the first, second and third place.

Mutapesca Sammy of Japan was named fourth place winner while Kohaku X Trident comprising contestants from Malaysia and Singapore won fifth place.

Winners received cash prizes and fishing equipment with a total value of more than RM71,000.
