KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Malaysia’s iconic KL Tower was lit up with a special illumination of Turkiye’s national flag colours in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkiye on Sunday night.
The KL Tower, known as the tallest telecommunications tower in Southeast Asia and the seventh tallest in the world, was adorned with red and white lights in honour of Turkiye’s struggle for independence.
Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yuksel in his speech during the occasion said 100 years ago, the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye proclaimed the Republic after long years of war and the Turkish nation reached its ultimate goal of peace and prosperity.
“Since that glorious day, which is Oct 29, 1923, a hundred years passed and now Turkiye is amongst the most advanced nations on earth with its 85 million population,” he said.
“After a hundred years of that day, today, we are amongst friends, brothers and sisters in this beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
Yuksel noted that the special display, which started from 8 pm to 9 pm, was a show of solidarity at this greatest moment and a clear indication of the special bonds between Turkiye and Malaysia.
“On this occasion, I remember with gratitude and respect the founding father of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his fellow soldiers and friends, and our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the victory on the War of Independence and the foundation of our Republic,” said Yuksel.
