MELAKA, Nov 26 — Students are thrilled with their ‘hotel-like’ toilet facilities, thanks to the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) ongoing initiative to upgrade toilets at national schools nationwide.
A pupil of SK Padang Temu, Mumtaz Nur Ain Muhammad Amir, 11, said the toilet at her school was previously closed due to clogged sewer lines and broken pipes, but after the upgrade, she and her friends are excited about taking a toilet break because the dread has been removed with a refreshing makeover.
“This new toilet is very pleasant, and I am grateful for our teachers’ (the MOE) efforts to make us feel comfortable, and we have a greater reason to keep the toilet clean,” the Year Five student told Bernama.
Mumtaz Nur Ain’s classmate Sofia Indah Irdina Shahrizan, 11, said she was ecstatic over the newly upgraded school toilet that is now clean and comfortable to use.
“As a school prefect, I will make sure that students who are on duty (to clean the toilets) always follow the set time to ensure that this toilet is always clean,” she said.
Muhammad Rayyan Nafiz Hesham, 12, from SK Telok Mas, believes the toilet makeover will encourage students at his school to be more prudent when using the facilities.
According to the Year Six student, the toilet at his school was previously quite filthy, and many of the fixtures were broken, making them unpleasant to use.
For SK Duyong pupil Muhammad Alif Imran Abdullah, 12, he was pleased that the toilet at his school now has a fresh look and new features, which he described as being very comfortable to use as there are no more unpleasant odours.
“To ensure it is always in good condition, we’ll remind each other to always keep the toilet clean and follow the rules,” he said.
In the meantime, Nur Syahira Adnan, 16, of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Baru, said she and her friends no longer had to resist the urge to use toilets at their school due to its unpleasant condition now that the facility has been spruced up.
“The toilet used to be stinky and quite uncomfortable for female students to use due to its poor condition, but now it is very comfortable for us,” said the Form Four student.
Muhammad Adnan Haqimi Abdul Rahim, 16, from the same school, said the toilet at his school is now more functional and comfortable, making students more motivated to keep it clean.
“So from now on, I hope all my friends will use it wisely and not vandalise it,” he said.
