MELAKA, Dec 16 — The Melaka branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) received about 390 consumer complaints from January till early December this year, its director Norena Jaafar said.

The complaints included not receiving goods or services after purchasing online, or receiving goods or services unlike what was offered online, including umrah packages.

“Throughout this year, we received 25 complaints over umrah packages, including deceptive promotions, additional costs and hidden charges, accommodation that was different from that advertised and fraud.

“We hope the public will be more wary of such umrah packages and are advised to lodge complaints with the consumer tribunal if they do not receive services as promised,” she told reporters at an event in Ayer Keroh here today.

Other complaints included hidden supplies of controlled items, high price of goods, confusing price tags, and goods without price tags, she said, adding that they resolved 93 per cent of the complaints, including taking legal action against offenders under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

“Melaka KPDN recommends that consumers lodge complaints about consumer affairs so that we can check up on it and take action,” she said.
