IPOH, Dec 25 — Development plans for the late Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman Daeng Uda Mohd Hashim’s residence along Jalan Ayer Kuning in Changkat Jering, Taiping, were faced with obstacles due to technical land ownership issues.

Pertubuhan Waris Kerabat ADMAR Malaysia secretary Siti Aluyah Hussin, said that despite numerous silat gayung students volunteering to help, the landowners on the heirs’ list could not be located, presenting a major hurdle.

“This issue can be resolved with the assistance of the Perak government,” she said in a statement tonight.

She added that on Jan 27, 1971, the then Sultan of Perak, the late Sultan Idris Shah, had officially opened the premier silat gayung training centre located at Lot 15750, Tupai district, Larut and Matang, covering 1.1 acres, which was essentially the house.

According to her, after Meor Abdul Rahman’s demise, the residence on the agricultural land was abandoned and the premises remained vacant.

Siti Aluyah said that local authorities have also cut off the electricity, water, and sewerage facilities to the house.

“Among the names on this grant are Siti Fadzilah Meor Abdul Rahman (now changed to Siti Nurdiana Hussin) and Meor Abdul Rahman’s adopted son, Sazali (47/864 portion). Every year, Siti Fadzilah takes responsibility for paying the quit rent for her share (3760/17280 portion),” she said.

Siti Aluyah added that Siti Fadzilah was appointed as the absolute heir of Silat Seni Gayong after her father’s death on June 23, 1991, and is the only surviving heir. In addition, she is the chairperson of the association.

She said the intention of Siti Fadzilah, her family, and the silat gayung students is to develop a gallery or mini museum dedicated to Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman and set up a silat training centre on the land.

She firmly believed that Meor Abdul Rahman’s contributions deserve to be commemorated on that site for the benefit of silat gayong practitioners as well as the general public.

“Siti Fadzilah and her family also welcome advice and assistance to resolve the land ownership crisis to enable its development as intended,” she said.

Yesterday, National Silat Federation of Malaysia (Pesaka) president, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, in his capacity, assured that he would assist in the rebuilding of the house.

On Dec 20, Bernama reported the deteriorated state of the house on Jalan Ayer Kuning toward Changkat Jering’s main road. Neglected and surrounded by overgrown vegetation, the windows, doors, walls, and roof showed signs of wear and decay.
