JAKARTA, Jan 17 – The ASEAN region experienced 28 disasters, including floods, landslides, and wind-related incidents, in the second week of 2024.

The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) reported that wet conditions in the southern region caused significant disasters in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s disaster management agency, BNPB, documented floods, landslides, and wind-related incidents in various regions, including Kalimantan, Java Island, Sumatra Island, Riau, Bengkulu, and North Maluku.

AHA Centre’s update revealed that flooding in Indonesia affected 128,000 individuals, 35,000 houses, and 45 schools.

The disaster management organisation in Malaysia, NADMA, stated that the flooding scenario, persisting from the first week of 2024 in Johor and Pahang, continued until last week, with the addition of Sabah.
