MELAKA, Jan 20 – Some 7,000 visitors are expected to throng Melaka Zoo on Feb 20, when there will be free admission for locals following the gazetting of that date as a public holiday in Melaka in conjunction with the Malaysia Independence Proclamation Day.

Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) president Datin Sapiah Haron said there would be no limit on the number of free admissions but foreign tourists would need to buy entry tickets.

“We are prepared to receive visitors to Melaka Zoo on that day and they will be allowed free entry from 10 am to 5 pm.

“However, we will take a break from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm to clean toilets and dispose of garbage as well as to allow the animals to rest,” she told reporters Friday.

She spoke to reporters after launching the Veritas landscaping programme on planting 100 hopea odarata trees at the Sungai Putat Reforestation and Riparian area as part of efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Sapiah said the free admission initiative is part of the promotions for Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024).
