GEORGE TOWN, Jan 24 – The Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) is set for completion in April 2025, and it will be an invaluable contributor to Penang’s economic development as well as enhancing the island’s appeal to global visitors.

This RM4.5 billion freehold project, spanning a total gross floor of over 330,000 square feet, is located along Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway near Penang Bridge and The Light Waterfront.

PWCC is part of Penang’s seaside development, and the project is a joint venture (JV) between IJM Corporation Bhd (IJM) and Singapore-based Perennial Holdings Private Ltd (Perennial Holdings).

IJM group chief executive officer(CEO) and managing director Lee Chun Fai said that kicking off the new year on a high note, The Light City is proud to announce the near completion of the PWCC, ushering in an exciting chapter in Penang’s meeting, incentives,  conferences and exhibition (MICE) sector.

He said that at the heart of the vision lies PWCC, a modern, state-of-the-art venue designed to facilitate connections, collaboration and innovation for both local and international communities.

“In today’s topping-out ceremony of PWCC, we commemorate a significant milestone in strengthening Penang’s appeal as a dynamic hub for business, culture and community, and this event signifies more than just the nearing completion of structures; it represents the realisation of our vision for The Light City.

“Its central role within The Light City underscores IJM’s commitment not only to constructing buildings but also creating spaces that actively contribute to the vibrancy and economic growth of Penang,” he said in his speech at The Light City celebrating the topping-out of PWCC, here today.

The topping-out ceremony to celebrate the construction milestone took place on the rooftop of PWCC and was graced by the presence of Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Perennial Holdings executive chairman and CEO Pua Seck Guan.

Meanwhile, Pua said PWCC is the largest convention centre in Penang and the centrepiece of The Light City, setting the stage for the growth of Penang’s MICE sector and tourism industry.

He said PWCC’s combination of technologically advanced features, well-laid-out amenities, and meticulously curated retail and hospitality offerings positions The Light City as a global MICE destination.
