JAKARTA, Feb 1- Presidential and vice-presidential pair Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming have maintained the top position in the presidential race with 50.7 per cent in the most recent survey.

Following closely are Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar with 22 per cent, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md with 19.7 per cent.

This marks the first time the Prabowo-Gibran pair has surpassed the 50 per cent threshold, according to Lingkaran Survei Indonesia (LSI) Denny JA.

“Prabowo-Gibran’s electability has surpassed the magic number for a single-round presidential election race at 50.7 per cent,” LSI Denny JA senior researcher, Adjie Alfaraby noted.

He said over 80 per cent of all candidates’ supporters favor a single-round presidential election. If no candidate achieves more than 50 per cent in the first round, a second-round run-off is scheduled for June.

LSI Denny JA conducted face-to-face interviews with questionnaires from Jan 16 to 26, using a multi-stage random sampling method with 1,200 respondents. The margin of error is ± 2.9 per cent.

Recent polls by Lembaga Survei Indonesia and Indikator Politik Indonesia on Jan 20 and Jan 18, respectively, further validated the dominance of the Prabowo-Gibran pair.

On Feb 14, Indonesia’s 204 million voters will play a pivotal role in determining the leadership of the world’s third-largest democracy.

They will cast their votes to elect the president, vice president, members of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and representatives for local legislative bodies.
