LIMBANG, March 7 – The construction of the Northern Coastal Highway, linking Miri, Brunei, Limbang and Lawas, is scheduled to commence next year, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the four-lane highway project is financed by the Sarawak government with a budget of RM6.1 billion.

The project is crucial for creating substantial economic opportunities, especially in Limbang and Lawas, he added.

“In Limbang, we will upgrade the airport by extending the runway to accommodate larger planes,” he said after the Sarawak State Development Coordination Committee meeting on Wednesday

“We are actively scouting for an appropriate location to establish a resort that will serve as a focal point for the tourism sector,” he said.

Abang Johari also highlighted the significant benefits the highway will bring to Lawas, as the area will soon boast a new port and airport.
