KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 – The Iftar@KL programme at Dataran Merdeka on the last weekend of Ramadan was a big hit before the homeward-bound exodus picks up speed for the Aidilfitri celebration.

Commenting on the crowd-puller, engineer Muhammad Daud Mohd Izman, 39, said Iftar@KL is an annual event that he did not want to miss because of the smorgasbord of dishes laid out for breaking the fast among the masses.

“I participate in Iftar@KL every time it is held because this programme is amazing. It’s not every day that we see people gather like this to break their fast, only in the month of Ramadan,” he said.

As for Siti Nor Aliya Ahmad Muhri, 30, she too wouldn’t miss a last dash at the various delicacies sold at Iftar@KL before hitting the road for her hometown in Penang.

“Before facing the maddening traffic flow which is already quite congested at the moment, I stopped at Iftar@KL, the food here is also delicious, it never disappoints,” said the clerk of a private company.

Housewife Baizura Bakri, 50, was also excited to be able to break the fast with her family at Iftar@KL after she finished shopping for Raya clothes.

Iftar@KL organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) in collaboration with the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Islamic Tourism Centre and the Putra Arts Cultural Centre, featured 35 talams (trays) of dishes for the event.

Since it was introduced in 2012, Iftar@KL this year is being held for six days since March 23.
