PUTRAJAYA June 17 : A total of 140 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the past 24 hours and discharged today, while only 10 new cases were reported.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said there were no new deaths, with the toll remaining at 121.

With the 10 new cases, the total number of recorded cases to date is 8,515. A total of 521 people are still being treated.

Of the new cases, three involve foreigners in Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah, while seven patients are Malaysians from Selangor, Sarawak and Sabah.

Four patients are currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with none needing respiratory assistance.

Noor Hisham said the total number of patients who have recovered and been discharged so far stands at 7,873 (92.5%).

Noor Hisham also announced a new cluster in Sabah involving the 120th fatality. The first case in this cluster involved a senior citizen who died on June 12 at home from heart complications.

He was screened for Covid-19 and tested positive. Before that, he was treated for heart disease at Hospital Queen Elizabeth II.

He said contact tracing found that two health workers had also tested positive. To date, 63 individuals identified as close contacts had been screened.

The source of infection for this cluster was still being investigated, he said.
