PETALING JAYA,Jan 26: Poh Huat Resources Holdings Berhad has revealed that 543 employees at its main subsidiary in Malaysia have tested positive for Covid-19.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, it said the positive cases were detected through a screening of about 1,400 employees at Poh Huat Furniture Industries Sdn Bhd (PHFI) in Bukit Pasir, Muar, Johor.

The screenings were conducted on Jan 21 for both foreign and local workers at all its plant premises and corporate offices as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the virus among its employees.

The group also temporarily suspended its Malaysia operations from yesterday to Feb 3, and may extend it further on the health ministry’s advice.

It said this move was expected to delay shipment orders to customers in the US, and that the management was currently in discussion to reschedule all delivery dates according to its inventory.

Poh Huat added that its Vietnam operations were free from Covid-19 and work there was being carried out as usual.

“The group can divert some of its Malaysian orders to its Vietnamese subsidiary should the need arise,” it said, adding that it might increase production with extended shifts once manufacturing activities in the country resumed.

“The company does not expect any material impact to its financial performance other than the cost incurred for the swab tests, disinfection process and daily meal allowance to foreign workers.”
