PASIR MAS, Feb 19  — The authorities in the country believe the four Malaysians who were detained in Takbai, southern Thailand on Wednesday entered Thailand via rat routes along the bank of Sungai Golok.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Jaafar said subsequently, plans to install more barbed wires at several more locations on the Malaysia-Thailand border were seen as apt.

Abdul Rahim told reporters today that the installations of barbed or concertina wires at certain locations would to a certain extent reduce cross border crimes.

He was commenting on the detention of four Malaysian men at a roadblock in Salamai, Takbai at 2.30 pm.

It is understood that the four individuals, in their 20s and 30s, were believed to have cross Sungai Golok and were detained after failing to show any documents.

In another development, Abdul Rahim said GOF personnel involved in Op Benteng would ensure inter-bank barter or delivery activities using plastic drums along Sungai Golok would be stopped.

‘’The police will take appropriate action as we fear some quarters may use the opportunity to exchange banned items such as drugs,’’ he added.
