GEORGE TOWN, April 21 — Penang police arrested two men and a woman and uncovered an online prostitution ring in a raid on a hotel in here on Monday.

State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Rahimi Mohd Ra’ais said acting on public information and surveillance since last week, police arrested the suspects, aged 31 to 37, in the 11.35 pm raid.

“The two men and woman are believed to be members of a syndicate offering online sex services that has been actively carrying out prostitution activities for the past few months.

“During the raid, police also managed to rescue two foreign women, one from the hotel in George Town, and the other at a condominium in the Batu Ferringhi area,” he said in a statement today.

Rahimi said the syndicate targeted local and foreign customers and investigations found that the syndicate was raking in thousands of ringgit in profit per month from the prostitution activities.

“The three suspects have been remanded for further investigation under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act 2007,” he added.
