KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — SMH Rail Sdn Bhd (SMH Rail) has unveiled its newly manufactured H10 Series locomotive, built with advanced technology to reduce emissions with the tagline ‘Towards Green Mobility.’
The H10 Series locomotives provide value to the environment and railway ecosystem together with innovation in design engineering that will fuel green operations.
Chairman and managing director Datuk PK Nara said the rolling stock manufacturer and maintenance services provider is committed to building innovative solutions in the global railway industry.
“SMH Rail has evolved from being a rolling stock maintenance service provider to a world-class manufacturer within a span of two decades.
“The launch of the high powered, diesel-electric locomotives known as the H10 Series locomotives is proof of SMH Rail’s ability to provide cutting-edge technology in line with the global rail industry standards,” he said in the virtual launch of the H10 Series locomotives today.
He said a major achievement in the project was SMH Rail’s ability to engage with local vendors and infusing about 60 per cent of local content in the manufacturing.
PK Nara noted that the first batch of locomotives in this series will be delivered to Tanzania Railways Corporation which has placed the order based on funding support from the World Bank.
“I am confident that these locomotives will bring enormous economic benefits to the African Rail cargo industry as it is efficient in bridging connectivity, increases supply-chain access, accelerates industrialisation, and promotes cross-border trade,” he stressed.
He added that the locomotives can potentially replace 100 cargo trucks, reduce carbon emissions by up to 75 per cent, lower highway congestion, and are four times more fuel-efficient than road freight transport on average.
With the rapid growth in transport solutions, the ‘H10 Series’ locomotives certainly enable a vision towards a future that is clean, fast, and green.
SMH Rail, in its aspiration to position Malaysia as a regional manufacturing hub for railway rolling stock, will continue to leverage opportunities and partnerships to develop its national and global footprint.
