JERTEH, Oct 19  — The National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) has allocated RM4.79 million to be distributed to State Farmers Organisations (PPN) and Area Farmers Organisations (PPK) nationwide to benefit 32,120 members this year.

Nafas board of directors chairman Datuk Zamri Yaakob said of the total, RM3.2 million was allocated for the distribution of zakat (tithe) to members throughout the country.

“Each PPN will receive RM70,000 while PPK will receive RM8,000.

“As for Terengganu, the PPN and all 33 PPK will get a total of RM225,000, of which RM160,000 is for the provision of zakat to 1,600 members and the rest is for management purposes,” he said in his speech at the presentation ceremony of COVID-19 aid in Gerai PPK here today.

Also present were Nafas board member Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakri and Terengganu PPN board of directors chairman Datuk Rosli Harun.

At the event, a total of 378 members of the Gerai PPK, comprising farmers from Jerteh and Hulu Besut who had been infected with COVID-19 and were affected by the pandemic, received contributions in the form of basic necessities.

In another development, Zamri said Nafas was conducting a study on the ownership status of oil palm plantations abroad, covering about 12,140 hectares, whether for sale or otherwise, as the organisation planned to focus on increasing plantation ownership in the country.

“Nafas will also increase its income through business, including focusing on the plantation sector such as oil palm and poultry farming to reduce dependence on government assistance,” he said.
