MIRI, Nov 2 — A total of 23,970 senior citizens and individuals with comorbidities in Miri have received COVID-19 vaccine booster dose as of Nov 1, said the minister in charge of Miri Division’s Disaster Management Committee, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.

He said the Miri district had received 19,157 doses of the vaccines, followed by Subis (2,701), Marudi (1,081), Beluru (619) and Telang Usan (412) since the programme began here on Oct 14.

“The Ministry of Health (MOH) has approved the administering of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine booster dose at least six months after their second dose whie for Sinovac recipients at least three months after their second dose,” he said.

He said this after visiting two private hospital vaccination centres – Hospital Columbia Asia and Miri City Medical Centre (MCMC) – and a private clinic vaccination centre, Lee Clinic here.

Lee also urged the public not to fall for fake news on social media alleging the booster dose as being supposedly unsafe.

“This vaccine dose has been reviewed in detail and approved by the MOH… the same as the first and second doses. It’s the same with the combination of two different doses of vaccines… that too has been approved by medical specialists and is safe for use,” he added.
