KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 — The Malaysia International Agricommodity Expo and Summit (MIACES) 2022 has generated potential sales totalling RM3 billion, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said.

She said the potential sales were generated through the signing of various memoranda of understanding, sales and collaborative deals.

MIACES 2022 involved the participation of 1,288 trade delegates from 39 countries, with 537 business to business meetings conducted.

“We expect the sales to generate more income for the agricommodity sector of all participating countries such as Nigeria, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan,” she told reporters at the Malaysia International Agricommodity Awards held in conjunction with the closing ceremony of MIACES 2022 here, today.

The expo was attended by more than 10,000 trade visitors.

Themed ‘Advancing the Agricommodity Sector in a Sustainable Ecosystem’, the three-day expo held from July 26-28, featured diverse agricultural products, with focus on palm oil, rubber, timber, cocoa, pepper, and kenaf, which are among the main drivers of the Malaysian economy.

From January to May 2022, agricommodity exports recorded a total of RM87.6 billion, an increase of 2.7 per cent compared with RM85.3 billion in the same period in 2021.
