KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah arrived in a horse-drawn carriage to grace the National Day 2022 celebrations at Dataran Merdeka.

Their Majesties’ arrival at 8am on Wednesday (Aug 31) was met with loud cheers of “Daulat Tuanku” from thousands of visitors, who began filling up the grandstands from 6.45am.

A glance in any direction at Dataran Merdeka shows a sea of the Jalur Gemilang being waved in the air by Malaysians eager to join the National Day 2022 celebrations, which is back after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his wife Datin Seri Muhaini Zainal Abidin arrived at 7.45am.

Also in attendance are Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong as well as other Cabinet ministers and foreign dignitaries.

The national anthem “Negaraku” was sung at 8.09am, marking the start of the day’s line-up of exciting activities and shows.

This National Day 2022 is themed ‘Malaysian Family Strong Together’ and is being celebrated on a large scale from 7am at Dataran Merdeka.

Approximately 50,000 visitors are expected to be present to witness the parade.
