TUMPAT, June 17 — Phase 1 of the Sungai Kelantan Integrated River Basin Development project (PLSB) is expected to be completed by Oct 17, said Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

He said the project implemented since 2018 involved an allocation of RM699 million.

“The implementation of PLSB Phase 2, involving an allocation of RM1.06 billion, in September is expected to be completed in 2028,” he said.

He told reporters this after inspecting the project’s work progress in Teluk Renjuna here today.

Nik Nazmi said through the implementation of PLSB Phases 1 and 2, an area of ​​63,000 hectares of flood area involving 130,700 residents, especially in Sungai Kelantan river basin such as in Kota Bharu and Tumpat will be protected from the risk of flooding.

“The scope of the project includes flood mitigation components, rivers, environmentally friendly drainage and the National Water Balance System (NAWABS).

He said it also focuses on the provision of flood mitigation infrastructure and drainage systems with an environmentally friendly concept, increasing the capacity and efficiency of river channels to reduce the impact of floods.
