KUALA LUMPUR, 18 Jun — The relevant agencies have been urged to collaborate in providing cyber security awareness and guidance to the community, especially the youth and the elderly, so that they do not become victims of scammers.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said more effort to tackle scams need to be done so that the community and young people can face the challenges of the digital world.

“The ‘Jom Digital @ Lembah Pantai: Cyber ​​Security Awareness Campaign, Digital Economy and Connectivity’ programme aims to give exposure and awareness to the local community and youths so that they are more sensitive and concerned about the issue of scams in the community which is becoming more and more prevalent.

“The implementation of this programme is expected to bring various benefits and benefits to the participants and the local community,” he said when speaking in conjunction with the closing ceremony of the programme organised by Yayasan Digital Malaysia at Perumahan Pantai Permai here today.

He also reminded the public to always be careful when handling social media accounts and also not to download mobile applications from unknown sources.

“I’ve seen residents being quite surprised when they see for themselves how their phones can be hacked just based on apps downloaded by scanning.

“I hope they gain more exposure and avoid becoming victims of hacking or scams,” he said.

A resident, Aishah Sulaiman, 70, was grateful for the programme as she was more aware of the risks involved. 

“I live with my sister here, prior to this, we were very worried upon hearing about cases of people being scammed and so on, with this programme I am more confident now to surf the internet,” she said.
