CYBERJAYA, Oct 25 — Malaysia will continue to fight for the freedom of Palestine despite receiving threats from other countries for doing so, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said Malaysia remained firm in championing the fate of Palestinians because the struggle was a responsibility that had to be undertaken.
“There were European MPs who proposed this (action) against Malaysia.
“It’s not a problem; let’s not be deterred. We have work to do. Insya-Allah, we will continue with our work,” he told reporters after opening the National Language Decade and National Reading Decade carnival here today.
He was commenting on his revelation at the ‘Malaysia Stands with Palestine Rally’ at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil last night that he had received threats from other countries due to Malaysia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.
In his speech at the rally, Anwar stressed that he would not bow to threats from other countries as long as he has the mandate and trust of the people as the head of government.
The recent clashes in Palestine involving Hamas, the ruling authority in Gaza, and the Israeli regime have resulted in the loss of thousands of lives on both sides since Oct 7.
Asked about the effect of this stance on the country’s security, Anwar said he was not worried about this and was leaving it to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain to handle the matter.
“On the question of security, we have the Inspector-General of Police. They will handle it, so I am not worried,” he added.
Razarudin today gave an assurance that the security for Anwar will be increased following the prime minister’s disclosure regarding numerous threats he received due to his outspoken advocacy for Palestine.
