NEW DELHI, April 11 – Afghanistan, Turkiye and Iran have extended condolences to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh over the killing of his three sons and four grandchildren by Israel in an airstrike on a Gaza refugee camp.

“It is with deep sorrow that we receive the distressing news of the martyrdom of several family members of Ismail Haniyeh, the esteemed political leader of Hamas,” Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a statement.

“We hold in high regard the sacrifices, patience and resilience displayed by Haniyeh and the Palestinian people. It is through these enduring qualities that we believe the path to conquest and triumph begins,” he said.

Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi spoke on the phone with Haniyeh to express his sorrow and told him that through these sacrifices, Palestine will be freed from Zionist occupation.

Haniyeh’s family members were targeted on Wednesday while visiting relatives for Eid at Gaza’s Shati refugee camp.

The growing brazenness of Israeli attacks in its genocidal campaign in Gaza is fuelling public anger and demands for retribution.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also spoke to Haniyeh, who is head of the Hamas Political Bureau.

“President Erdoğan stressed that Israel will definitely be held to account before the law for the crimes of humanity it has been committing,” the Turkish Presidency said in a social media post.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian condemned the Israeli attack as “criminal and cowardly”.

He said these sacrifices will strengthen Palestinian resolve to liberate their lands from the Zionist regime.

“May God the Almighty bless and shower mercy upon the children and grandchildren of the martyrs of the past and more than 34,000 martyrs of the recent months in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,” Amirabdollahian said.

Around 60 members, including many children of the Hamas leader’s family have been killed in Israel’s relentless bombing since October.
