KUCHING, Aug 7 — The three-day Sarawak edition of the Malaysian Family Aspirations Tour (AKM), which ended today, attracted more than 80,000 visitors.

Senior Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the good response showed that the people  in Sarawak responded positively to the programme held at the Dataran Perayaan Petra Jaya.

“This proved that what the government’s aspiration,  to reflect togetherness and inclusivity of the people is appreciated by the people of Sarawak.

“The Sarawak AKM tour received good response in all aspects,  including sales and exhibitions, as well as the kenduri rakyat,” he told reporters after the closing of the Sarawak AKM by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob here today.

The AKM Tour is based on the concept of inclusiveness, togetherness and gratitude by depicting the integrity of the country, which is tied to the excellent educational value in a family, with the Keluarga Malaysia phrase considered more inclusive as it cuts across religion and race.

During the three-day AKM Sarawak tour which began last Friday (Aug 5), various events and activities were held with the involvement of 28 government agencies.

Meanwhile, Director of Strategic Programme Section, Shared Prosperity Delivery Unit (SEPADU) under the Prime Minister’s Department , Datuk Azlan Johar said the Karnival Jamin Kerjaya Keluarga Malaysia was among the main attractions at the event with more than 1,000 jobs were offered.

He said, SEPADU which is the main secretariat for the programme, hoped that the Keluarga Malaysia spirit would continue to be applied in the next edition of the AKM tour, to be held in Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Penang and Pahang before the culminating event in Putrajaya at the end of November.

“My hope is that this Malaysian Family will continue to unite us despite being made up of various ethnicities and races,” he told Bernama.
